The weather this time of year is ideal for getting outside and exploring the forested hills and stunning waterfalls of the Orara Valley. Whether you and your family are making an overnight stop on a journey along the coast or you and your partner are looking for a chance to get out of the city and back to nature, Friday Creek Retreat will give you that relaxing ‘getaway from it all’ feeling you’re looking for. During your stay, venture out to explore some of the lush forested walking tracks of the Coffs Harbour region. Your body and mind will thank you for it.
We can’t speak highly enough about this hidden oasis just twenty minutes drive from Friday Creek. The Bangalore Falls Track is a short and easy, one kilometre walk through towering trees to the magnificent cascading water of Bangalore Falls. Take in the serenity while observing the diverse and abundant flora and fauna all around. Be sure to check the weather before venturing out as the road to the carpark can get boggy when it rains.
If you’re up for a more challenging walk, that will lead to rewarding panoramic views of Coffs Harbour, set your sights on End Peak Walking Track. Head to the Forest Sky Pier, a thirty minute drive east of Friday Creek, for a jaw dropping view to begin the 3.2 kilometre walk. While walking along Bucca Bucca Creek and through old-growth blackbutt and diverse rain forests, keep your eyes pealed for koalas and abundant birdlife.
The choice for wanderers that love to incorporate local culture on their walking experience is the Gumgali Track at Sealy Lookout. Just before the Forest Sky Pier, this easy and short jaunt follows the ridge line to Korora Lookout with Gumbaynggirr sculptures, mural art, and interpretative signs along the way.
Another favourite track in the Bruxner Park Flora Reserve is the 1.5 kilometre Rainforest Loop trail. Park your car at The Gap and walk to the trailhead for a medium grade walk in the trees.
You won’t want to miss this bush walk! Especially if you enjoy a dip in the refreshing waters of a picturesque waterfall lagoon. And really who wouldn’t? About one hour north of Friday Creek Retreat, this local favourite is worth the hike. Falls Walking Track is an easy 3.6 kilometre return walk through subtropical rainforest rich with a myriad of wildlife. Best access is from Woolgoolga Creek picnic area. With several creek crossings, this one is all about getting adventurous in the fresh waters meandering along the track.
We are so lucky to have such magnificent wild places to explore just a short drive from Friday Creek Retreat. When visiting these locations be sure to practice Leave No Trace principles by packing in and packing out all items, respecting wildlife and being considerate of others.
