Halfway through autumn and we’re already soaking up every ounce of these magical misty mornings, sun drenched days, and cool crisp evenings. Days perfect for collecting kindling and enjoying the transition of seasons. As the nights begin to take the inevitable dip into winter temperatures, we’re ready to get cosy with five ways to create that spark of romance, with an escape to one of our nine woodland cottages in the hills of the Orara valley.
Make it a surprise! Surprising your love with a secret escape for just the two of you is truly one of the most romantic ways to capture their heart. Plan ahead by booking in advance, pack their bags and coordinate schedules so that your partner can completely trust in you and relax into the romance of your surprise. Then take in that moment of joy as they realise you’ve whisked them away, leaving all troubles at bay.
Get away from the city life, the traffic noise and all the distractions that come with the everyday madness. Take a journey up the coast or into the hills. Get back to the peace of nature. Where you can actually hear your own thoughts and listen to each other again. Deep breaths of fresh air and waking to birdsong are an added bonus when you venture into the forest. A cottage keeps it cosy, with all the comforts of home so you can go gourmet with your chef skills. Or leave the kitchen untouched and opt for a tasty meal from a nearby village. After all, Coffs Harbour and its bustling cafe scene is a mere fifteen minute drive. Or book a wood fired pizza night at the poolside facilities.
Grab a picnic rug and a basket full of your favourite antipasti goods. Add a bottle of vino and a baguette to set the scene, and you’ll have a swoon worthy sunset picnic in the vineyard. With the falling golden Chambourcin leaves as a backdrop and your lover by your side. It may just be the perfect time to plan for the future, by popping a question (!) or if you’ve been there done that – ain’t no shame in sitting back and just being here now.
After an afternoon of picnicking or exploring the nearby bush tracks, the night doesn’t have to end back at the cottage. Cut the chill in the air by running a hot bath; chuck in some bubbles and light the candles. Warm up and zone out to the sound of crickets and night birds, as your body becomes weightless in the soothing soak.
Most importantly, a woodland cottage escape is truly at its best when we can enjoy the flickering light and warmth of a wood fire. Snuggle up with your love on the cosy lounge in front of the fireplace and enjoy the crackling sounds and warm glow emanating in the room. Take in the picturesque hills and get starry eyed with a favourite movie. Nothing like the feeling of a cosy warm snuggle (and a glass of wine) to spark a bit of romantic spirit even after all those years.
